Frequently Asked Questions

HOW CAN PROTEC HELP INCREASE FUEL EFFICIENCY?

It is a widely known fact that manufacturer recommended tire pressure achieves the greatest fuel efficiency. According to the NTHSA keeping your tires properly inflated can save you up to $.11 per gallon as underinflated tires lower gas mileage by 0.3% for every 1 per square inch (psi) drop in pressure. Tires lose about 1 psi of pressure each month. Protec Tire Sealant will help to prevent air loss by sealing the tire in a manner reducing porosity which allows air migration and slow leaks. Underinflation is the primary cause of tire failure and Protec will help to prevent the consequences common tire problem.

WHY IS MAINTAINING PROPER TIRE PRESSURE IMPORTANT?

Underinflation is the primary cause of tire failure. It is a common problem as tiny holes (porosity) in the tire allow air to migrate out over time. As weather and tires heat up the air migration and slow leaks increase as air escapes more rapidly. Vehicles made after 2007 have a Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) which will alert drivers when tires are significantly below pressure – about 25% below where it should be for safe operation. The NTHSA estimates that 1 in 4 vehicles have at least one tire which is significantly underinflated. Under-inflation is the primary cause of tire failure and Protec will help to prevent the consequences common tire problem. Protec Tire Sealant will help to prevent air loss by sealing the tire in a manner reducing porosity and will keep the tire cooler, optimizing performance and reducing the stressful effects of the heat.

WHY IS THE TEMPERATURE OF MY TIRES IMPORTANT?

Under-inflation places stress on the rubber and creates excessive heat leading to a much higher potential for tire failure, also known as blow outs. Protec not only helps to prevent pressure loss but acts as a protective cooling agent to maintain optimal tire temperature. By running at optimal temperatures the casings and tread are better maintained and more likely to be candidates for retread.

IS PROTEC USED TO REPAIR OR PREVENT DAMAGE?

Protec is used to repair and prevent damage. Optimally it would prevent damage in order to avoid unnecessary risk, costs, and downtime; however, if used as a repair method, Protec would be installed, air pressure returned to recommended psi and then drive.

WILL PROTEC SEAL SIDEWALL PUNCTURES?

Sidewalls are made of thinner material than the tread and therefore much more difficult to repair. Although it is not guaranteed, Protec has been shown to heal sidewalls punctures.

WILL PROTEC CAUSE IMBALANCE IN THE TIRE?

No. Protec will not cause imbalance in healthy, well balanced tires.

DOES PROTEC FREEZE IN LOW TEMPERATURES?

No. Protec will not freeze in cold climates

DOES PROTEC RUST OR CORRODE RIMS OR STEEL BELTS?

No. Protec will also help to prevent moisture from seeping into the tire and will retard any rust or corrosion which may naturally and otherwise occur.

CAN TIRES WITH PROTEC BE RETREAD?

Yes. In addition Protec will help to preserve the condition of the casing allowing for additional retreads and increasing your return on invest per tire / lower mileage cost.

WILL PROTEC PROTECT CASING AND RETARD DRY ROT?

Yes. Protec will reduce heat and eliminate migrating air that is directly related to increased tire and casing life.

HOW LONG WILL PROTEC LAST?

Protec is designed to last for the legal tread life of the tire. Install it once and keeping driving.
